The second lecture will propose a prospective stance. Keeping the objectives of the Paris Agreement under reach amounts to a complete retrofit of past mitigation and adaptation strategies. If the crisis itself generated an unprecedented reduction in GHGs, to date, most of these exit policies are cementing a highly – and old -- carbonated productive sector, as was observed in 2008 in the aftermath of the financial crisis. On the other hand focusing on GHG emission reductions only to cope with the Paris Agreement without touching the financial and economic institutions at the heart of the fossil economy bears the risk of social unrest. Avoiding the next crisis of the Anthropocene imposes to navigate between these two reefs.
