NASA’s mission to understand Venus’ possibly habitable past and hostile present continues with the VERITAS mission (Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy), launching no earlier than 2031. VERITAS will explore how Venus transitioned from a once potentially habitable planet to its current extreme greenhouse state, using high-resolution radar and infrared spectroscopy to map its surface, analyze volcanic and tectonic activity, and search for signs of ancient oceans. In partnership with ESA’s EnVision and NASA’s DAVINCI, the mission will reveal key insights into planetary geology, climate evolution, and habitability in our solar system and beyond.
