Mason Jar Ecosystem

Join Science Mom to take part in this fun and interactive science project! This fun project will help you learn more bout ecosystems and how science experiments are conducted. We can learn a lot about plants and soil interactions by creating our own miniature ecosystem in a jar. Gather your supplies if you are going to join us. - 2 Mason jars (or other clear containers) - Potting soil, dirt, or compressed coconut coir (enough to fill half the jars) - Seeds (thyme, chia, wheat, grass, or clover) - A light source (a puck light fits well in the lid of a mason jar, but a bright window sill or a desk lamp may be used) - Gravel, pebbles, or marbles (enough to form a small drainage layer in the bottom of each jar).
