This figure summarizes the questions, procedures, and tests health care workers performed at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak to verify if a patient is infected with the SARS-CoV-2. In October 2022, with the availability of affordable rapid antigen testing, this procedure was modified. However, in the case of the emergence of a new, unknown virus, patient differential diagnosis might look very similar to the presented flowchart.
