Gene cloning has provided a more cost-effective way of treating certain diseases. Through genetic engineering or gene cloning, the proteins needed to treat these diseases can be produced in far greater quantities. Gene cloning involves inserting the human gene that encodes the protein into bacteria where the protein is made along with all the other bacterial proteins.
