A degrowth perspective for a post-Covid19 world (1/3)

A degrowth perspective for a post-Covid19 world (1/3)

Governments around the world are designing new growth strategies to revive their economies, as a response to the economic crisis that covid19 is triggering. Degrowth has been arguing for many years that economic growth is not, and cannot be, a viable solution to the problems of our times. Basing a post-covid recovery on growth policies does not have the power to address the social and ecological problems, because it is not dealing with the fundamental causes of the ongoing crises: it is merely treating symptoms. This is the topic of the first video. The second video then introduces some of the key principles of degrowth, such as autonomy, conviviality, decommodification, care, democracy and solidarity, and how these notions invite us to rethink the foundation of our economies. The third and last video explores three interconnected strategies, that can be summarised as follows: produce less, share more, and decide together.
