Allyship and Advocacy in STEM Education

Like their students, educators from racially diverse backgrounds face systemic challenges in STEM education environments, which can make it more difficult for them to thrive. How can STEM educators support their colleagues from underrepresented groups to ensure that they all have the resources and opportunities to succeed? This pathway introduces allyship—a powerful practice where those from privileged groups advocate for underrepresented or marginalized communities. Educators will learn the key characteristics of allyship and explore how these can be applied in STEM education contexts to create more equitable opportunities for students and colleagues.
