This AP® Biology content explores the chemistry of life as it relates to macromolecules. How does macromolecule structure impact biological function? In this pathway, learners will be introduced to the biochemical composition of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. They will also discover each macromolecule’s unique role in living systems. Through an analysis of monomers, bonds, and polymers; learners will explore the structural differences among these 4 biomolecules and interpret how changes at the subunit level can lead to overall changes in their function.
