This AP® Biology pathway explores how chromosomal inheritance drives genetic variation in sexually reproducing organisms. Learners will examine how processes such as segregation, independent assortment, and random fertilization create diversity in offspring. They will also investigate how variations in chromosome number or structure, as well as single-gene mutations, can lead to genetic disorders. Through real-world examples, learners will see how the patterns of gene transmission influence traits in humans and other organisms.
